Pre-Conference Excursion
Hawai Volcanoes National Park (HVNP), the most active volcano in the world, will be the designated site for this extraordinary field trip. One of the worlds most dramatic landscapes, HVNP is both a powerful geological site as well as a deeply spiritual experience.
Madame Peles (Goddess of the Volcano) presence can be felt as you hike across Kilauea Iki and reflect on the powerful eruptions of the past. Your field interperter, a Hawaii geologist, will take you to the Volcanos sulfur banks, steam vents, lava flows, craters and awesome lava tubes. This will be an unforgettable trip as you explore unimaginable vistas. Be prepared for temperature changes and please bring a light sweater or jacket and light rain gear.
Advisory
Those with heart or lung conditions must be aware of altitude, weather and air changes. If you have asthma, please be aware that the sulphur fumes may affect you adversely.
Trip Includes
The field trip includes, transportation, lunch, a small snack, your Volcano Field Interpreter,and stops at Kilauea Vistor Center, Jagger Museum, Crater Rim Drive, Halemaumau Crater, Nahuku (Thurston) Lava Tube and Devastation Trail.

If you plan to go on this trip, you should plan your travel so that you arrive at the hotel no later than August 22, 2006.

The University reserves the right to cancel the excursion if the required mimimum number of persons do not register and pay for the tour by May 22, 2006. Tickets may be reserved and paid for on the meeting registration form.
